About Jared & Rachel

I was 13 when my dad, Steve Auten, died by suicide. The first time I traveled to Maine to attend Camp Kita was in 2017 to fill the role of crisis counselor, and I've participated in this capacity every year since. Rachel made it to her first camp session in 2019 and returned for the 2022 season. I was drawn to Camp Kita because having a place where I could connect with nature, do camp stuff, tell stories, and be with people who get it was probably what I needed when I was young. We're so grateful to have the privilege of serving youth impacted by suicide by returning to Camp each year. We keep going back because we get to witness how much the experience and relationships mean to the brave kids who show up. So much excitement surrounds the effort to build a home for Camp Kita at Loon Pond. We hope those following along can share in that excitement by talking about the good being done and by donating what they're able. Thank you!
